This weekend’s action thriller ‘Madras Cafe’ has been pulled out from UK cinemas after protests by a section of the Tamil community.

Earlier this week, the film caused controversy after Tamil groups demanded a ban to the film’s release. The film is set in the late 1980s and early 1990s and includes the time when Mr Gandhi was assassinated by Sri Lanka’s Tamil Tiger rebels in 1991 at an election rally in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.

The film has already drawn protests from students and political parties in Tamil Nadu over alleged portrayal of LTTE in bad light and was not released their today. Meanwhile, UK distributor Tip Top Entertainment confirmed that it had pulled the film out of theatres from cinema chains.

‘Madras Cafe’ is directed by Shoojit Sircar and stars John Abraham and Nargis Fakhri.
