Madhu Chopra says Priyanka’s colleagues called her mad for producing Bhojpuri films

While many had thought Priyanka Chopra would start out her film production career with Bollywood films, her ‘Purple Pebble Pictures’ started off by producing the Bhojpuri film, ‘Bam Bam Bol Raha Hai Kashi’ (2016). Co-founder of ‘Purple Pebble Pictures’ and Priyanka’s mom Madhu Chopra, revealed that many of Priyanka’s colleagues and peers didn’t see as to why she would produce Bhojpuri films, also declaring Madhu crazy for doing so.

Madhu addressed the session ‘Beyond Bollywood: Does regional cinema make better sense?’ at the FICCI Frames, where she said, “The first film we did was a Bhojpuri film. You can’t imagine what reaction I got from Bombay. Priyanka’s colleagues and peers said, ‘Your mom has gone mad. Why are you all even making Bhojpuri films? It doesn’t go with your brand image’. But I told Priyanka, you are uplifting a region that needs your attention. You are doing it for a passion and cause. I can say it with great pride that commercial success or business was not on our mind. It was forging a path and becoming an option for  new regions,” as reported by Indian Express.

Meanwhile, Priyanka is busy in the USA, with her ABC hit drama, ‘Quantico’.
