Lyca Radio extends to Birmingham

Lyca Radio, part of the UK’s largest Asian commercial radio network, has extended its reach into the West Midlands with the launch of its service in Birmingham.

The soft launch, which went live in the early hours, will share programming from the network’s flagship London stations—Lyca Radio and Lyca Gold. This marks a key step in the group’s wider plans to broaden its digital footprint across the country. The Birmingham transmission is now available on DAB digital radio.

This latest development forms part of Lyca Radio Network’s ongoing expansion strategy, further strengthening its position as the leading broadcaster for the British Asian community. Following its acquisition of Asian Sound Radio’s frequencies in 2023, the network launched Lyca Radio Greater Manchester, and later expanded into Leicestershire via DAB. Over the coming days, the group is expected to roll out services across a wider area of the Midlands including Wolverhampton, Shropshire, Coventry and Derbyshire.

Raj Baddhan, CEO of Lyca Radio Network, commented: “Everyone knows I’m a Brummy, so bringing Lyca Radio to the Second City was always going to happen. Our Birmingham launch is part of a much larger vision for the Midlands, which we’ll reveal in due course. The phenomenal response to our Leicester service has given us even greater confidence, and now we’re ready to offer the rest of the region a truly high-quality Asian radio experience.”
