Licence fee to increase to £147 from April

The British television licence fee is set for a rise from £145.50 to £147.00 from April.

The fee, which had been kept frozen after a government announcement last October, will be lifted after 31st March 2017. This will be the first increase since 2010. It will now increase in line with inflation over the next five years, starting from 1st April 2017.

The licence fee covers all the BBC services and also contributes to the costs of rolling out broadband across the UK, according to the BBC. The licence fee also covers local BBC TV channels.
