LGBTQ Bollywood film to premiere at South Asian International Film Festival in USA

A timid gay boy from Chandigarh, A fearless lesbian girl from Meerut – A road trip together from Delhi to Mcloedgunj that changed their lives – ‘Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele’, directed by Harish Vyas (Whose last film was the Sanjai Mishra/Anshuman Jha starrer Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain) will have it’s World Premiere at the South Asian International Film Festival presented by HBO. The film is in competition at the festival and will have it’s World Premiere in Manhattan on 22nd November as the Friday Night Premiere at the Festival.

Both Anshuman and Zareen will be travelling to represent the film at the festival. Says the director Harish Vyas, “We are excited that a joyous film with LGBTQ protagonists is Premiering in the most diverse city of the world New York. Also rushing to finish the final festival cut as we had sent a work in progress which the jury liked. Remember we only finished shoot in August end after we lost the drives.”

Says Anshuman Jha who has previously travelled to the festival with Drishyam Film ‘X:past Is Present’ opposite Swara Bhaskar and Huma Quereshi in 2014 says, “This film discovers & re-discovers the love in friendship. And which better city than the Big Apple, with the worlds largest LGBTQ Population, to premiere this film celebrating the Community. I’m looking forward to the audience reaction there.”

Zareen adds, “I’m feeling on top of the world that we will be premiering in New York. Its a film that is very close to my heart & I’m really very excited. I hope everyone likes it & enjoys it like we have enjoyed making it.”

The film which was also one of the ten selected scripts from Asia at the South Asian Film Market (SAFM) in Singapore in November 2018 and is scheduled for a Valentine’s Day 2020 release in India. It will see Jha portraying a homosexual man (Veer) and Zareen as a homosexual woman (Mansi) on a road trip from Delhi to Mcloedgunj.
