Legendary actress Kamini Kaushal passes away, aged 98
Celebrated actress Kamini Kaushal, one of the last remaining icons of Hindi cinema’s golden age, has died at the age of 98.
Kaushal’s distinguished career spanned nearly eight decades. She made her debut in 1946 with ‘Neecha Nagar’, a landmark film that went on to win the Palme d’Or at Cannes, the only Indian film ever to achieve this honour. She later starred in acclaimed works such as ‘Shaheed’, ‘Biraj Bahu’, ‘Anhonee’, ‘Jailor’ and ‘Prem Nagar’. In her later years, she appeared in contemporary successes including ‘Chennai Express’, ‘Kabir Singh’ and ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’.
Renowned for her grace and versatility, Kaushal worked alongside legends such as Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Manoj Kumar, leaving an indelible mark on Indian cinema. She was admired not only for her leading roles in the 1940s and 1950s but also for her memorable character portrayals in subsequent decades.
