Legal action against ‘Baaghi 2’ makers over Mundiyan?

When the song Mundiyan from ‘Baaghi 2’ was unveiled, it was bound to be an instant hit due to it being a remix of 90s track Mundian To Bach Ke Rahin by Channi Khannewala and the late Labh Janjua. However, it seems Khannewala is planning on taking legal action for the song being re-done without permission.

Khannewala and Janjua protected the song’s rights in 2002 after British Punjabi Rajinder Singh Rai remixed the track which became a big rage. Khannewala told Mumbai Mirror, “So imagine my shock when I was home in Punjab and saw a Hindi version of our song, “Mundiyan,” playing on TV. The words of the first two lines and the last stanza had been changed but it was still our song”.

Khannewala has confirmed that he’s tried contacting many of the ‘Baaghi 2’ team, including producer Sajid Nadiadwala, but noone has really given him anything in the way of a response. “The noticees deliberately deprived me of my royalty. It is not only cheating, but also disrespecting a legend like Labh… Our next step will be seeking criminal and civil action since we have all appropriate documentation to obtain injunction and compliance orders”, said Khannewala.

A spokesperson for ‘Baaghi 2’ commented, “T-Series has acquired all the required rights to the song from Sony Music”.

‘Baaghi 2’ is directed by Ahmed Khan and stars Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani.
