Lebara Play retains Tamil channels; scraps others

In a rather surprising move, Lebara Play has scrapped all of its Asian and African channels, retaining just a slew of Tamil services.

It came to light in July that Lebara Play was ceasing streams of the Hindi and Punjabi channels. It switched off the streams at the end of August. However, the IPTV platform currently only has the Tamil package available via its website, with no sign of any African channels.

The news will come as a huge blow to Lebara Play, which had aggressively pushed the IPTV platform to UK customers between summer last year and February this year. However, some had speculated trouble for the service at the beginning of this year when Lebara Play marketing campaigns in the media were abruptly halted. Some have said that the service had been under the scanner due to licencing issues with certain broadcasters. However, Lebara has not officially commented on this.

Lebara Play۪s rival, Lyca TV has a similar platform available for non-Hindi channels and it seems Lebara Play will be following with a selection of South Indian language channels.
