Disney has announced the launch of its much awaited digital platform, Disney Plus.
The service will be available in the US from 12th November 2019 priced at $7 per month or $70 annually. It will directly rival Netflix’s monthly subscription, which costs $13 per month (stream on two different devices simultaneously).
In terms of content, Disney Plus will exclusively stream new TV spin-offs, newly acquired ‘The Simpsons’ and its library of shows/films under Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm. It has already started pulling films from rival services to stream on Disney Plus exclusively.
As a part of its acquisition deal of 21st Century entertainment assets, Disney acquired Star India in the process. It is expected to continue running digital platform Hotstar in parallel with Disney Plus.
