With International Women’s Day this week, Shah Rukh Khan has pledged that from now on all his forthcoming releases will see the name of his leading actress’ in the credit roll before his.

Typically in Indian cinema, male actors come up first in the credits, followed by the leading lady. However, for King Khan, it’s changing with the release of his next film ‘Chennai Express’ (2013). He said, “I would request to all those who I am working with, starting with ‘Chennai Express’ (to do it). I don’t know whether this is going to bring a change but the point needs to be raised.”

“With the mark of 100 years of Indian cinema and Women’s Day coming up, it would be a nice combination. In ‘Chennai Express’, Deepika Padukone’s name will appear first,” he added.

Asked about Deepika’s reaction on this, he responded, “She was not jumping on the roof top. She said, ‘It’s great, but I hope even others start following this.'”

Talking to Mid-Day, he stressed upon the fact that “women’s position in every field needs to be respected”. “Right from my mom to all the actresses I work with are the most important women in my life,” he added.
