‘Koffee with Karan 5’ review: Akshay-Twinkle get candid

After a strong first episode, the second episode of ‘Koffee with Karan 5’ was sure to have the excitement levels heightened right from the first sneak peek. When Akshay Kumar graced the couch before, he was seen in a solo episode – talking frankly with Karan Johar. For his second outing, Kumar returned with wife Twinkle Khanna who made her debut on the show.

It is important to note, first of all, that Khanna and Johar are childhood friends. This was evident when they started expressing their background through anecdotes. However, Kumar and Khanna were every inch the perfect couple but it was definitely the latter’s candidness which won the episode over. With her “no filter” statements and stories about when she first met Kumar, she was nothing short of entertainment just in herself. One might have watched and thought she would be great in solo conversation with Johar himself in a separate episode.

Kumar and Khanna hardly get seen together on such shows and now that they have been, it’s as if the viewers are left wanting more. Khanna takes no prisoners it seems and this puts Kumar in a very different light to what the audiences might be used to. The highlights of the show include Khanna’s answer to the “favourite Khan” question in the rapid fire round as well as Kumar’s reaction to some of the things she saying in answer to Johar’s prodding – even prompting him to urge her to develop a filter when replying.

The ultimate best moment in the entire episode had to be Kumar’s performance when he sang to Frank Sinatra’s ‘Strangers in the Night’, something he’d been practising just for their joint appearance. It was his declaration of love for his wife after togetherness of 14 years. However, the twist came when he takes Johar’s hand to dance after twirling his wife around at the start. Khanna seemed taken aback, moved and then in splits to see Johar and Kumar dancing together.

All in all, this episode was nothing short of a gem. It have a great insight into the couple’s relationship which, up until now, seems to have been very under wraps.
