Kitu Gidwani has secured a role in Karan Johar’s next romantic drama, ‘OK Jaanu’. Gidwani was last seen in Rajesh Pillai’s thriller ‘Traffic’ (2016).

According to Mid-day, ‘OK Jaanu’ will be helmed by Shaad Ali and will also see Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur in lead roles. Gidwani will be essaying the role of Kapoor’s mother. “I play the role of a contemporary woman, a mod mom, who keeps urging her daughter to follow her heart. It will be an interesting role. Wait and watch,” said Gidwani.

Gidwani who has also made small appearances within other films such as, ‘Dhobi Ghat’ (2011), ‘Student Of The Year’ (2012) and ‘Wedding Pullav’ (2015), was a household favourite when she appeared in India serial dramas like ‘Air Hostess’, ‘Swabhimaan’, and ‘Junoon’, but Gidwani reveals “There’s no place for me in these saas-bahu sagas.”

A source close to the ‘Traffic’ (2016) actress said, “People who have grown up watching Doordarshan still remember Kitu for her free-spirited roles. Even in OK Jaanu, she will not be seen as the quintessential Bollywood mother. Also, since it is a Karan Johar-production, she will also get noticed.”

‘OK Jaanu’ will be a remake of Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film ‘OK Kanmani’ (2015).
