Kiara Advani: “I’d like to work with all three Khans”

Kiara Advani, who made her acting debut with the film ‘Fugly’ (2014), was lauded for her character in the biopic ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’. Genuine, sensitive and optimist, the actress remains unaffected of the competition around. In a freewheeling conversation with BizAsiaLive.com , the exhilarated actress shares her experiences about her latest release ‘Machine’.

Tell us something about your character in ‘Machine’.
In ‘Machine’ I play a girl named Sara. She is a very romantic and completely today’s girl. She is a car enthusiast. It has got nothing to do with machines. There is no robotic thing that is making people think that the film is all about technology and machines.

After the success of ‘M.S. Dhoni- The Untold Story’, are you confident that your film will do great?
I really never understand box office numbers and I am very happy that my last film was a hit. If a film does well, it also opens doors for other films to do well and for the distributors to go out there and do more films. We are hoping for the best. Who doesn’t want their films to do well? When it’s about Abbas-Mustan’s films, people are really excited. So, one can hope for the best.

Mustafa is making his debut with this film. How was it working with him?
He surprised me as an actor. I didn’t expect that level of confidence. The energy that he exuded on the sets gave me a feeling that he has done this before. It felt really good for me as it’s important to play off each other’s energies on sets. Though it was his father’s film he had to audition. He is very hard working and talented.

Do you relate to your character in the film?
I could completely relate to the character. The college she goes to and so I understand that even I have been brought up like this and I could play it very easily. Even Sakshi’s character in Dhoni is a simple girl who I could relate to completely. My first film was gritty and dark as she had to go through all the molestation. It’s one of the perks of the job.

Do you want to balance your roles as an actress?
Films which I have done so far chose me. I never did decide that I was going to play these roles. All the three films have different characters. I am not stereotyped yet. I want this to continue. I have been very different from what people have seen me doing before. I am glad for the response that is coming in.

Which are those directors that you would love to work with?
I would love to work with Raju Hirani, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the list really goes on. It’s a very long list.

There are many actresses in Bollywood that are dying to work with the Khans. If given a chance, who would be the first Khan, you would like to work with?
I would like to work with all three.

Which is that actress that you admire in Bollywood?
There are many. Madhuri Dixit, Kareena Kapoor, Kajol. So these are the actresses who made me want to become an actress. In the recent times, it’s Deepika Padukone who is really doing well.

Do you compete with newcomers in Bollywood?
I think everyone is doing well in their own way. Everyone really wants to be good and one has to keep pushing the envelope. It’s a healthy competition. It’s very inspiring. People are taking up different roles. It opens your minds. However, I would also like to add that today the audience decides. They are the ones who can make you or break you. I mean actresses like Priyanka Chopra have made it big in the industry without any godfather.

How was your experience working with Abbas-Mustan?
When I met them for first time my conversation lasted for 4-5 hours. Till date I didn’t meet anyone in the industry who is so down to earth despite having so much success.

‘Machine’ releases this weekend at cinemas.
