‘Kesari’ to focus strongly on female character?

There are many times when stories are adapted to an actor’s personality, generation, or even an audience’s opinion, but recent reports say that the story depicting the Battle of Saragarhi is being adapted to today’s mindset and focusing on the women in the story.

As according to Deccan Chronicle, a source said, “The original story of the Battle of Saragarhi, in which 21 Sikh soldiers took on 10,000 Afghan tribesmen, revolves around the Sikh leader Ishar Singh and his estranged daughter, Eesha.”

Parineeti Chopra is supposedly playing Eesha in the upcoming ‘Kesari’. Although, television series’ and movies on the Battle of Saragarhi are also focusing on Singh’s wife Sohni, even though there is not much focus on her in history.

Another source added, “Based on the original story, Eesha had a difficult relationship with her father, and hers is the better role. But when it was depicted in a TV series recently, actress Sameksha Singh played Sohni, and she received a lot of footage. Even in Rajkumar Santoshi’s film 21: Battle of Saragarhi, Yami Gautam’s sister, Surilie Jasraj Singh, played the female lead and she received a considerable amount of screen time.”

‘Kesari’ also stars Akshay Kumar and is slated to release next year.
