Kash the Flash kickboxing gym faces uncertain future

A community kickboxing gym headed by former four times kickboxing world champion Kash the Flash is facing closure after it was hit by a bill of £25,000.

Disadvantaged groups including children risk could be left with nowhere to train after the owner was told to pay a massive business rates bill.

The gym in Edgbaston, Birmingham is currently only open 11 hours a week and runs a series of after-school programs, free self defence and martial arts classes. Some classes are free while others cost up to £6.

Kash Gill told BizAsiaLive.com, “Kash the Flash gym is my pride and joy I put all my savings I had into that gym and will never see the return of the money but what makes me happy is the results of change in peoples lives and seeing the young children growing in confidence.”

Gill has launched a petition asking the council to review their demand for the “excessive business rates” – See the petition here.

The petition says: “Our gym’s focus is not on the money we make, but rather giving our kids a reliable, safe place to be and better themselves mentally and physically.

“The monetary aspect of the gym is the least of our concerns, with most months seeing us just about break-even.

Kash the Flash gym faces closure

“It’s really not a money making gym but more for the kids in the community and way of giving back and coming from an inner city myself I know its beneficial not just for youngsters but Men-Women & children as its a very good discipline and great way to keep fit and healthy.”
