It comes as no surprise that time and time again, rumours have circulated around the revival of RK Films, the banner establishedby the late filmmaker and visionary, Raj Kapoor, although it has been 15 years since the production house released any movies. One ofBollywood’s most loved actresses and granddaughter of the late actor cum producer-director, Kareena Kapoor Khan, hasfinally laid those rumours to rest and revealed that, as of now, there are no such plans of reviving the banner.

According toDeccan Chronicle, she toldPTI, “There are no plans of reviving the banner. We have not thought about it. My grandfather had made so many films and launched such a good established banner. We made some really good films but at the moment there is nothing happening.”

R.K. Films was set up in 1948 and most of its productions, including ‘Aag'(1948), ‘Barsaat’ (1949), ‘Awaara'(1951), ‘Boot Polish'(1954), ‘Shree 420′(1955), ‘Jagte Raho'(1956), ‘Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai'(1960), ‘Mera Naam Joker'(1970), ‘Bobby'(1973), ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram'(1978), ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili'(1985) and many others, share a common theme of criticising society and depicting love across social divide.

In 1988, in the middle of shooting ‘Henna'(1991), Raj Kapoor suddenly took ill and passed away, leaving son Randhir Kapoor to take over his legacy, his studio andhis last incomplete film.

Alongside ‘Henna’, Randhir Kapoor had also directed ‘Dharam Karam'(1975), whilst Rajiv Kapoor helmed ‘Prem Granth'(1996). It was then in 1999, that actor Rishi Kapoor went on to give ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalen’ which turned out to be the last film made under the banner.

The affluent Kapoor family has presided over show business across four generations, starting from Prithviraj Kapoor to Raj Kapoor to his three sons, Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor and currently, the youngest generation of Kapoors, namely, Karisma Kapoor, sister Kareena Kapoor and cousin-brother Ranbir Kapoor are dominating the industry as Bollywood’s most popular celebrities and accomplishedactors.
