When Karan Johar directed Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna۪ (2006), some of his loyal audience were in for quite a surprise. The film, popularly referred to as KANK۪, was the first of Johar۪s experimental cinema. However, though the filmmaker took a bold step with the story of ‘KANK’, he stuck to his lavish style of filmmaking, which earned him some criticism. Johar has now gone on record to say that he will be remaking the film at some point in his career, as he now understands where he went wrong with the treatment.
I made it on too lavish a scale and built up expectations. It should have been made as an intimate drama of two couples. In eight years, my perspective on marriage has changed. And even those who hated the film in their 20۪s understand it today, even though we as a society continue to be hypocritical. But that۪s not going to stop me from remaking the film, Johar told Mid Day.
When asked if he would retain his original cast of Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan and Preity Zinta, Johar said, That۪ll depend on when I make the film.
