'Agneepath' South remake to be co-produced by KJo?

‘Agneepath’ released this year created new records as the highest first day box office collections ever for a Bollywood film. Soon after there was buzz about producers from the South wanting to buy the remake rights from producer of the film Karan Johar.

Now, news comes in that Johar will be co-producing the South Indian version rather then just sell the rights. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he said, “I have to trust the production company to do justice to the subject. When finalised, I۪ll make an announcement as it will be Dharma Productions۪ first move down south” Asked on whether if he has any actors in mind for the remake, he adds, “It will feature the finest actors from the South who will fit the roles of Vijay Chauhan, Kancha and Kaali.”

The original ‘Agneepath’ was released in 1990 with Amitabh Bachchan playing the iconic role of

Vijay Dinanath Chauhan. The film did not do well commercially but the Big B went on to win the National Award for his performance. It was directed by the now late Mukul S. Anand.

‘Agneepath’ was remade and released earlier this year with Hrithik Roshan stepping into Bachchan’s shoes. Also starring Sanjay Dutt and Priyanka Chopra, the film was directed by newcomer Karan Malhotra.
