Karan Johar ties-up with Gippy Grewal for historical Punjabi film ‘Akaal’
Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions has partnered with Gippy Grewal for the upcoming historical film ‘Akaal’, which will be released in both Punjabi and Hindi.
While Dharma Productions has previously focused on Hindi and South Indian films, this marks a significant step as they aim to elevate Punjabi cinema with a wide release for ‘Akaal’. The film seeks to showcase the rich history of Sikh warriors to a broader audience.
Announcing the project on Instagram, Dharma Productions shared, “Epic tales are meant to be told together! 🤝 Dharma Productions and Humble Motion Pictures Fzco join forces to bring you Akaal in Punjabi & Hindi. #Akaal releasing worldwide in cinemas on 10th April, 2025.”
Karan Johar expressed his excitement, saying, “We are honoured to partner with Gippy Grewal and Humble Motion Pictures Fzco on Akaal. This film powerfully represents the history and culture of Punjab, and we are committed to bringing this important story to a wide audience across India through its release in both Punjabi and Hindi. We believe in the strength of this narrative and its ability to connect with people.”

Gippy Grewal, who is also directing the film, shared his enthusiasm, saying, “Bringing the stories of our Sikh warriors to the screen is a passion project for me. The cast includes Nimrat Khaira, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Nikitin Dheer, Mita Vashisht, Shinda Grewal, Ekom Grewal, Jaggi Singh, Ashish Duggal, Bhana La, Harinder Bhullar, and Jarnail Singh.
The film will be released in time for Vaisakhi on 10th April 2025.
