Karan Johar: “I wanted to give one hit film as an actor”

With the trailer of his next big production ‘Simmba’ having recently released, Karan Johar has a lot to be excited about. With Rohit Shetty as the director, starring Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan, it seems Johar also wanted to get in on the action a little more and apparently he makes a small appearance in the film.

Sharing a good rapport with the director, Mumbai Mirror reports Johar talking of why he wanted to get in front of the camera again, “I wanted to give one hit film as an actor and I requested if he could take me in his film so that I would get a hit! I just wanted to remove the misconception that my films as an actor don’t work.”

‘Simmba’ marks Shetty and Johar’s first collaboration as producer and director. Talking about Shetty, the filmmaker expressed, “Rohit Shetty school of cinema is unabashed, unapologetic and and in your face in the best possible fashion. His conviction is paramount and films are universal. I would say he is India’s most mainstream filmmaker that there is or the there might ever be.”

The film will be Sara Ali Khan’s second film, where her debut film ‘Kedarnath’ is yet to be released. Being a recent star kid to start her career this year, there is much talk as how she will fair against the late Sridevi’s daughter Jahnvi Kapoor. When Johar was asked about this ever, he was quick to set the record straight. “Two girls, who are 21-22 years old, if at this stage we start comparisons then it’s not fair,” he said.

Johar went on to add, “Both of them are wonderful, beautiful and they work very hard … Awards will never matter. The work they do, the love the they get from people is every award.”

‘Simmba” is set to hit the big screens on 28th December.
