Recent news has it that comedian Kapil Sharma has been slammed with an FIR from the social activist Santosh Daundkar, under the Environment Protection Act, the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, and IPC Section 187 (omission to assist public servant when bound by law to give assistance), due to the construction work at his house.

According to Deccan Chronicle, the work going on at Sharma’s house is destroying the neighbouring environment, where shrubbery and mangroves grow, and is apparently illegal. Seen as a violation to the environment, Daundkar booked the comedian under the acts, where his associates attended to court to register the FIR. Speaking to the media on behalf of the accuser was Abha Singh, who stated, “Judge A A Panchbhai was convinced by our argument about illegal construction (allegedly by Sharma) in a mangrove buffer zone. Its a known fact that the accused is in possession of a small bungalow in Andheri (West).”

She went on to add, “At this place he started doing illegal construction by adding additional floors that violates the law. Despite refrained from carrying out illegal construction as well as change of use of a land falling in CRZ (Coastal Regulation Zone) area, Sharma went ahead and tweeted about Rs 5 lakh bribe demanded from him. But he never disclosed the name of the bribe seeker, which is an added criminality on part of the accused (hence police have added IPC Section 187).”

Previously this year, Sharma had tweeted about having to pay a bribe just to construct his building where he had also tagged PM Narendra Modi. However nothing else was picked up from the matter until now. Looks like Sharma may have overlooked the trouble he has now got into.
