Kanika Kapoor overtakes Priyanka Chopra Jonas as most searched Indian female online

Almost a month has passed since the country lockdown was announced by the Indian government in an effort to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Since then, online search trends on Yahoo India has been able to reflect the population’s concern. Coronavirus searches, in particular, rose by 427%.

On the subject of searches, during the pre-lockdown phase, Priyanka Chopra Jonas was the most searched female celebrity followed by Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone. All this changed when singer Kanika Kapoor tested positive for Covid-19 on her return from London. Kapoor was able to replace these superstars to take the top spot but, at the same time, ran into trouble from authorities for not self-quarantining on return.

Other top searches before the pandemic revolved around ‘Delhi election results,’ ‘Delhi riots/Delhi violence’ and ‘JNU violence.’ The top searched keywords of people included Donald Trump, Arvind Kejriwal and Jyotiraditya Scindia, reports the Hindustan Times.

People were are also looking online for helpful tools while working from home efficiently, with video conferencing apps Zoom and Skype being the top two searches.
