Kangna Ranaut questions award shows

Kangna Ranaut continues to front Sohail Khan's cricket team
Kangna Ranaut

After being praised by audience and critics alike for her effortless performances as both Tanu and Datto in ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ (2015), Kangna Ranaut is definitely a front runner for the Best Actress trophies at the upcoming award shows. However, the actress claims to be getting phone calls from the respectiveorganisers to check if she will be attending the events, so they can decide whether or not to award her.

Speaking to Mid Day, Ranaut said, “Yes, I have been getting calls (from organisers). But I still don’t understand why they would appreciate someone’s performance only if the person is available to receive the award. Shouldn’t awards be given based on the quality of the performance, instead of first checking who can attend the ceremony? I am busy with ‘Rangoon’. I really don’t feel answerable to anyone. Award ceremonies don’t mean much to me. I look at them more as commercial events looking to get TRPs. However, I respect their initiative and expect them to respect my viewpoint. As far as item numbers for events are concerned, I am still not willing to do that for anyone.”

Ranaut, of course, is not the first actor in Bollywood to question award shows and hint that they only award those who attend the events and/or dance on stage.

The actress, who was last seen in Nikhil Advani’s ‘Katti Batti’ is currently busy shooting for Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Rangoon’ which also stars Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor.
