Kangna Ranaut: “I see myself as a warrior”

When it comes to Kangna Ranaut and what she believes in, it’s fair to say she carries a no hold barred attitude with it, where she believes it’s what makes her strong. Evidently rather different from many of her peers, Ranaut feels that woman should be able to express fully how they feel, but with the industry focusing so much on a more traditional type of woman, prevent women from speaking their mind.

“Yes, I see myself as a warrior. I think fighting is underrated. A woman, who is always seen as fighting for what she believes in, is not looked upon as desirable. My team tells me that if I want beauty brands to sign me, I can’t have that image,” Bombay Times reports her stating.

Talking about the way brand deals further, the actress went on to say, “Most brands propagate the stereotypical image of a girl whose life is a cakewalk. There is nothing dark about her and she’s not a struggler, but the lucky one. For their brands, they don’t want the face of a person who is associated with things like sexual exploitation, physical abuse and harassment.”

Being completely unapologetic about who she is and what she stands for, Ranaut has been criticised in the past for her bluntness. However, as she explains, she feels she’s setting an example of how she feels women should be encouraged to express themselves. “I think I am the perfect face of the young Indian woman today, but it’s a shame that they don’t think like that. Today, everything is about the survival of the fittest; if you don’t fight, how will you survive? We have to tell our women that some things are worth fighting for. It is subjective whether you are right or wrong, but you have to be strong to fight for what you believe in,” Ranaut states.

Despite her personal life not having had the smoothest ride, Ranaut’s professional life seems to be flowing rather well. With projects already said to be in the pipeline, it seems this year may play out a lot better than the last.
