Kangna Ranaut confirmed for Rani Lakshmi Bai biopic

Though rumours had been doing the rounds, it has now been confirmed that actress Kangna Ranaut will be playing the role of Rani Lakshmi Bai in Ketan Mehta’s biopic of the warrior Queen.

“She (Kangna) is on board. She has liked the script. It’s a role of a lifetime. She is at the top now…she is doing good work. I think she was best for the film,” Deccan Chronicle��reported Mehta confirming.

Speculation suggests that British actor Hugh Grant has also been approached to play a pivotal role in the film. However it seems as though the director wants to keep us in the dark a little longer in this matter, as he went onto add, “The process of casting is on and we will be making an announcement soon.”

Set to go on floors next year, Mehta who is known for his biopics, spoke about his decision on making this film. “Rani Lakshmibai is one of the most fascinating women I have come across in terms of what she has done in her life. I enjoy making biopics. It is a great platform to say stories of those people who have done great work. It has been a challenge to write this biopic but these are good challenges. I am very excited to start working on it,” Mehta explained.
