Kabir Khan on ‘Tubelight’ failure: “I am disappointed”

With high expectations for ‘Tubelight’ (2017) it was quite disappointing for Kabir Khan and the team when the film didn’t do well at the box office.

Reported in the Hindustan Times, producer and director Khan who had created magic with his previous film ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ (2015) spoke about the poor performance of ‘Tubelight’ (2017) “I am disappointed… You make a film with a lot of love and conviction and if it doesn’t do well the way it was expected to do, it’s disheartening,” said Khan.

Still proud of making ‘Tubelight’ saying that it will remain a special film regardless, Khan does express that not all his films should be compared to ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ (2015), “We can’t expect every film to do the business like Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Every film of mine is put against ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and it is unfair. I am extremely proud of Tubelight. It’s too early to analyse what went wrong with the film. Maybe people were not able to identify with the character of Salman. But I was happy with what Salman did and even he was playing this part”.

However the ‘Sultan’ (2016) actor has said that he will be reimbursing distributors to compensate for the losses made by ‘Tubelight’ (2017). When the ‘Phantom’ (2015) director was asked how he felt about this, he said,  “I am not a producer, I am a line producer of the film. I can’t talk about it as it’s about business. I think it is a great thing. It’s a good gesture by Salman. (But) For the film itself the cost is successful.”
