‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’ cinematographer V K Murthy dies

V K Murthy, the popular cinematographer known for his work in a number of Guru Dutt films including ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’, ‘Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam’ and ‘Pyaasa’ has passed away at the age of 96.

Murthy’s niece Nalini Vasudev told PTI, “He passed away this morning at his Shankarapuram residence here; he had only age related issues.”

Murthy also shot films like Kamal Amrohi’s ‘Pakeezah’ and TV serials like Govind Nihalani’s ‘Tamas’ and Shyam Benegal’s ‘Bharat Ek Khoj’.

Murthy also received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2008.
