John Abraham – The unsung villain of ‘Pathaan’

‘Pathaan’ (2023) fever did not just take over India, but also across the world. The last one week has been full of celebrations as Shah Rukh Khan fans ensured that his comeback to the silver screen after a four-year hiatus was a memorable one. In fact, SRK declared his love for John Abraham at a recent press conference in Mumbai. But looks like amidst all love for King Khan and Karan Arjun reunion, one forgot to acknowledge the dishy villain of the latest Yash Raj Films venture.

Bollywood is often accused of crediting only actors. We have often heard how script writers, directors and other technicians who are critical to a movie get side lined. The remuneration gap between the various people who put together a movie is proof of the Indian film industry’s hero worship. So, after the film’s release everybody was busy hailing the Badshah of Bollywood (not to take any credit away there). Salman Khan’s cameo became another highlight. We heard everyone singing praises about how Deepika Padukone made a sultry spy from neighbouring land. Amidst all the noise for YRF’s mega blockbuster movie people forgot all about one of the dishiest and may be most loveable recent time villains – John!

The desirable baddie:

The actor has looked sexy many a times on-screen. He has managed to make both men and women go weak at their knees when he walked out wearing sexy trunks from the sea in Karan Johar’s ‘Dostana’ (2008). In fact, YRF had launched John in a baddie avatar for the first time with ‘Dhoom’ (2004). But with ‘Pathaan’ the actor manages to stand tall right next to his superstar hero. On watching the actor’s latest outing as a negative lead, you fear him, hate him, but cannot help sympathising with him and falling in love a little too.

Not to forget that the actor looks his fittest best at 50! That’s right, we could not help but notice how this unbreakable and terrorizing baddie made the hero shed a anxious sweat in the movie. Throughout his acting career, the actor’s looks have taken a centre stage over his acting chops. But he comes as a complete package in ‘Pathaan’. John Abraham certainly deserves a little more credit than what he’s been receiving for this one. ‘Pathaan’ would not be a super spy if it were not for the super villain Jim.
