John Abraham against ban on ‘India’s Daughter’

John Abraham

Many Bollywood celebrities have spoken up against the decision of banning the recent documentary on rape, ‘India’s Daughter’. The latest celebrity to do so is actor John Abraham.

Deccan Chronicle quote Abraham as having spoken very passionately about the issueat a recent event. The actorsaid, “I saw India’s Daughter۪. I have seen it not once but twice. Not only should that documentary be shown to everyone but it should be shown in as many languages as possible across the country to make people aware of the mentality of the people in the country… Banning it means we are ashamed of the mistakes we are making. I think it is important to confront them and make sure it is out there in the open. It is a very important issue…I understand that there is a value of censorship that we need to adhere by. I respect that as India is a country with cultural values but you can۪t ban it.”

The documentary was specifically based on the 2012 gang rape case in Delhi. For the film, directorLeslee Udwin managed to get interviews with the convicted rapists and their defense lawyers, all of whom made shocking, controversial statements.

While ‘India’s Daughter’ was telecast in the UK on 4th March, the Indian courts banned its scheduled telecast on India’s popular news channel NDTV. However, due to the film already having gone viral on the internet, many in India who have access to the internet have already viewed it.
