Jimmy Sheirgill wins court case over ‘Veere Ki Wedding’ title

Jimmy Sheirgill has won a court case against Anil Kapoor over the use of the title ‘Veere Di Wedding’ for his next.

It was reported that Sheirgill has a Punjabi film with a similar title ‘Veerey Ki Wedding’ and apparently, Kapoor had written the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) to prevent him using the name.

However, the court has ruled in favour of Sheirgill’s Punjabi film, according to Deccan Chronicle.

Ashu Trikha, director of ‘Veerey Ki Wedding’ was cited in a publication saying, “We were informed that their lawyers had sent a notice asking us to be present in court, else they’d seek interim relief. We rushed to get our paperwork done.”

The director added, “The judge said he was not convinced by the [Anil’s] argument. He did not find any misuse or deceit as alleged, given that the story and cast were different. We are waiting for the judgment copy.”

The Kapoors are yet to officially comment on this but a source told a publication, “It is not ‘a huge blow’ as being projected by certain media houses. The judge basically said that they have made the film, so let their title be. Both the films can retain their titles.”

‘Veere Di Wedding’ is expected to go on the floors later this year. It stars Sonam Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
