As the prime hijacker in Sonam Kapoor’s ‘Neerja’ (2016), which released earlier this year, Jim Sarbh garnered excellent reviews for his menacing performance. The actor has now reportedly been signed to join the cast of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati,’ which will also be starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor.
Sarbh will play a key role in the historical drama, but details about his character are being kept secret. A unit hand says, “Bhansali was blown away after watching Jim’s audition tape and decided to sign him for ‘Padmavati’ in a challenging role,” reports Mid Day.
‘Padmavati’ is being billed as an anti-hero film where Singh plays ruthless ruler Alauddin Khilji, who is obsessed with the Mewar queen, Padmavati (Padukone). Kapoor will be seen as the leading lady’s husband, Raja Rawal Ratan Singh.
Sarbh refused to comment on the development reasoning that he wasn’t permitted to reveal any details. However, the film spokesperson confirmed the news by saying, “It is true that Jim has been cast for Padmavati. We can’t reveal anything about his character at this point, but it will exploit his versatility as an actor.”
