Ahead of the release of his first Hindi single ‘Yaad’, UK music sensation, Jayden Raichura spoke to BizAsiaLive.com ‘s Raj Baddhan about how the song came about, working with his co-singer Heeral Chhatralia and his previous cover single being picked up by Saregama. Raichura, who has a busy 2021 with four singles, spoke from the heart about his success in the UK music industry so far.

After releasing your original song ‘Ya Rabba’ earlier this year, you’re back with your biggest single to date ‘Yaad’ – Tell us more about this song?
Yaad… where do I start. This one has come straight from the heart into the song, the music, the video. This song was a concept I started two years ago where I wanted to capture what I was feeling at a certain point in time into a song and into a video. I spoke to my writer Omar Malik from Lahore and I said I wanted to write a song about memories, but it needs to flow in such a way where it gives people goose bumps and makes people feel a variety of emotions when they hear each word. When it came to the music, I teamed up with my friend and producer of many of my previous covers. I wanted to capture the innocence and purity of the song so I insisted the backbone was a grand piano and the focus point had to be the vocals until the chorus comes and it then needs to grow into some form of artistic masterpiece, so we sat down for months to make the song how it is now. The icing on the cake was finding the perfect female feature. I had been looking for a female artist for this song for quite some time and I could not find the right voice for this record until I actually heard Heeral Chhatralia on Sabras Radio with her debut Phul Javaan Duniya and it captures me. I then checked her previous covers out and I knew she was the perfect voice and face to finalise the record.

…my pronunciation was not the greatest and although I am an NRI I wanted to try my hardest to get it right therefore that’s what I did. I practiced until I was happy the way I sounded.

The song is your first Hindi track – how challenging did you find singing the song in Hindi?
I actually prefer singing in Hindi so I fully enjoyed it. I had to actually re-record this as when I first did record, my pronunciation was not the greatest and although I am an NRI I wanted to try my hardest to get it right therefore that’s what I did. I practiced until I was happy the way I sounded.

You’ve teamed up with Heeral Chhataralia for the song, what would you say about her contribution to the song?
Heeral has been a pleasure to work with from start to finish. Her energy, willingness and happy go lucky attitude made this so much fun. We have become friends through this project and I am sure we will work on future records again.

Lockdown has been interesting for me as I have created some of my best songs during the lockdown which will be released in 2021 if all goes to plan.

Your cover song ‘Roop Mastana’ was picked up by the record label Saregama, how elated do you feel about getting the recognition?
That was crazy. My second song to be picked up by them made me feel so thrilled as it gave me a sense of validation that I am on the right path sonically, visually and musically as a whole. They have been really supportive and I am happy that they have my best interest at heart.

How much has the lockdown impacted your music career?
Lockdown has been interesting for me as I have created some of my best songs during the lockdown which will release in 2021 if all goes to plan. However I will not ignore the fact that I am human and it has made me feel isolated and lonely at times. I have many down days and it is normal and humane to go through these. So what I tend to do is watch some cool TV shows on Netflix or cook some cool dishes.

Plans for 2021?
2021…wow it is so close yet so far away. I have got at least four new original records coming out in 2021. I have composed two of them myself and another two, I have worked with fellow writers and composers. I have also been working with my mentor Mo Khan who I am extremely grateful for and there are some amazing collabs coming up with Bollywood playback singers, mainstream rappers and even some upcoming artists. Keep your eyes peeled 🙂

‘Yaad’ releases on Friday 27th November across all digital music platform.
