Jay Sean hits number 1 spot in US chart

Hounslow born R’n’B sensation, Jay Sean, has become the first Asian singer to top the coveted US Billboard Hot 100 chart by dethroning the Black Eyed Peas after six months of reign.

Jay’s single ‘Down’ featuring Lil Wayne jumped from last week’s number three to the number one position. The platinum-plus ‘Down,’ which reached the one million digital singles sales plateau after only two months of release, already garnered the top position on the Rhythmic Crossover chart last week.

“Jay Sean۪s tremendous success proves the Cash Money creed that great music and great artists know no boundaries,” stated Ronald ‘Slim’ Williams, Co-founder and Co-CEO of Cash Money Records. “We congratulate Jay and thank the Universal Republic staff for their hard work in locking down the number one slot in so many platforms. We۪ve only just begun.”

Jay ends an unprecedented six-month run at the top of the chart by the Black Eyed Peas, which began in April with ‘Boom Boom Pow’ spending 12 weeks at number one, only to be replaced for 14 weeks by the follow-up single ‘I Gotta Feeling’. Jay is the first artist from the UK to top the Billboard chart in a year. Coldplay spent a week at number one with ‘Viva La Vida’ in June, last year.

Jay is the first UK artist to be signed by iconic Hip Hop imprint Cash Money, who already has two internationally acclaimed albums under his belt, a mantle-full of awards and several Top Ten hits plastered across the UK and other countries. His first single with the Rishi Rich Project called ‘Naal Nachna’ hit number twelve in the mainstream UK Top 40 chart.

‘Down’ will be available for release in the UK from Monday 26th October. In the States, Jay will be releasing his new album ‘All Or Nothing’ on Tuesday 24th November.
