Javed Akhtar tells Shekhar Kapur he’s wrong to claim ‘Mr India’ was his idea

In the latest debate about who has the rights over the original ‘Mr India’ (1987), Javed Akhtar told Shekhar Kapur that he is wrong to claim the idea was his.

Cited on Mid-day, Kapur who questioned the rights, tweeted, “If you are remaking a feature film, based on a director’s very successful work, does the Director have no creative rights over what he/she created?”

Akhtar responded back to correct him, “Shekhar saheb the story the situations the scenes the characters the dialogue the lyrics even the title none of these were yours. I gave it all to you. Yes you execute it very well but how can your claim on the film be more than mine. It wasn’t your idea. It wasn’t your dream.”

Last week along with Kapur, Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor Ahuja expressed their disapproval over Ali Abbas Zafar’s decision to remake the sci-fi classic. However it seems Boney Kapoor who was the original producer of the film has given the go ahead.
