Janhvi Kapoor on LGBT community’s pending Section 377 verdict

With the LGBT community awaiting the verdict on Section 377 in India, a number of Bollywood stars have come forward with their support.

According to a report in Times Of India, newcomer Janhvi Kapoor has lent her support to the ongoing debacle surrounding LGBT rights in India. She said, “I think everyone should have the freedom to love because love is such a pure and sacred emotion, I believe that everyone does what they do in search of love. So I don’t see why their love should be compartmentalised, generalised or made into something bitter.”

She added,”Everyone deserves the freedom to love who they want to love.”

Her ‘Dhadak’ co-star, Ishaan Khatter said, “I feel that any kind of a discrimination, be it on the basis of caste or class and sexuality is a form of hate and the film ‘Dhadak’, that we are so deeply involved in is, in a larger sense has an overline message talking about the power of love over hatred and we all believe in that. It is high time that we go out there and talk about this openly and discourage people who propagate hatred.”

Janhvi added, “And also eradicate the stigma that’s attached with homosexuality. I think there’s a lot of people are still scared to support homosexuality. I mean, the community just needs love and acceptance.”
