Janhvi Kapoor confirmed with Rajkummar Rao in ‘Rooh-Afza’

Since her debut with ‘Dhadak’, Janhvi Kapoor has played it safe by remaining under the wings of her mentor, Karan Johar in the Dharma Productions camp. However, it now seems the actress is ready to go independent.

After weeks of rumours, Kapoor has been confirmed opposite Rajkummar Rao in Dinesh Vijan’s ‘Rooh-Afza’. While, the film was announced in February, an actress was yet to be signed – until now.

Vijan told DNA India, “For Rooh-Afza we needed actors who could jump into their roles with unabashed conviction. Rajkummar and Varun (Sharma) are phenomenal actors, comedy is a space they excel in and own. For the female lead, we needed someone who could portray two contrasting personalities with ease and Janhvi stood out, she really connected with the script. Her talent is still raw, but she is excited about being moulded. The script is young, refreshing and totally crazy, and she is exactly that!”

Co-producer Mirgdeep Singh Lamba added, “We took some time to finalize the female lead. Besides being pretty, she needed to oscillate between two characters which are poles apart. You will fall in love with her in one scene and won’t believe she is the same girl in the next one. It’s not an easy switch for an actor. It’s the perfect casting.”

Kapoor will be seen playing the roles of both Roohi and Afsana – one of her characters will be a ghost, who sings and puts grooms to sleep so she can possess the bride.

It releases in March 2020.
