IPL 2020 scheduled to kick off in September in UAE

After it was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, organisers of the Indian Premier League (IPL) have reportedly confirmed, the lucrative tournament to kick off in September. It will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

IPL chairman Brijesh Patel said the tournament will take place on 19th September, subject to the BCCI getting the nod from the India government.

Patel said, “We have written to the Indian government. We are expecting a reply soon. Once it comes in, an IPL governing council meeting will be called next week to finalise all the other details.”

The IPL is set to take place over a 51-day period, with the finale scheduled for 8th November 2020.

In the UK, Sky Sports holds the television and digital rights for IPL until 2021.
