The upcoming Indian Premier League 2019 season will be taking place entirely in India, despite earlier reports that part of the tournament could be shifted outside India.
The 12th edition of the hugely successful franchise, will also kick off earlier, on 23rd March, to avoid clashing with the ODI World Cup, taking place in the UK.
A statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India said, “Based on the preliminary discussions with the appropriate central and state agencies/authorities, it was decided that the 12th edition of the world’s most popular and competitive T20 tournament will be scheduled to be played in India.”
It added, “It is proposed that the IPL 2019 will commence on 23 March 2019. The detailed schedule will be finalised in consultation with the appropriate authorities.”
The tournament is also starting early to avert a clash with the Lok Sabha elections. The dates are yet to be confirmed by the Election Commission.
