Interview with Sahiba Kaur, Pakistan Fashion Week

Recently, BizAsia.co.uk announced its partnership with London’s much awaited Pakistan Fashion Week being held in September.

We caught up with Sahiba Kaur, the Chief Events Co-ordinator at Riwayat, organisers of the Pakistan Fashion Week, to find out more about the event, plus the hype surrounding it.

Sahiba, firstly, tell us a bit about your background?
Well, I graduated from the London College of Fashion in 2003. After a bit of experience in London, I spent a few years working as a senior stylist at Cosmopolitan magazine India. Three years ago, I moved back to London and have since been active in the fashion and event management scene here.

How did you come up with the concept of working on the London Pakistan Fashion Week?
The concept and brainchild is mainly Adnan Ansari۪s (Creative head and Director) who has been a key personality in Pakistan۪s fashion and media world for more than two decades. Adnan and I have worked together in London in the past and had often spoken about ways to promote Pakistani designers in the UK, which has resulted in this event.

How many people are involved with the Pakistan Fashion Week?
It۪s a growing cast of hundreds, from the organisers and our support networks to the models and designers. One big happy family!

London is already saturated with world lifestyle/fashion exhibitions, what makes Pakistan Fashion Week stand out from the rest?
Pakistan is a true melting pot of cultures, influences and traditions. This fusion of thoughts and philosophies comes to life in it’s fashion industry, which we believe will wow audiences.

What kind of designers have you got for the Pakistan Fashion Week?
We will have up to twenty of the top contemporary designers of Pakistan including Zahir Abbas, Mohsin Ali and Adnan Pardesi. Some of them will be coming straight in from Milan Fashion Week.

What۪s the main agenda for the three-days of the Pakistan Fashion Week? What can punters expect when they attend the venue?
It۪s a myriad of events, kicking off with the red carpet and pre-event party on 23rd Sept. The next two days will be full of fashion shows, with up to twenty of Pakistan۪s top designers showing their latest contemporary collections.

Will this be annual event or something much more sooner than every year?
We۪d like this to be similar to other fashion events, with one event for Spring/Summer and one for Autumn/Winter.

Are you also working closely with other events/fashion shows?
Not at present, but this event from now on is going to take place twice a year Autum/Winter and Spring/Summer respectively

What kind of support are you receiving from media outlets for the Pakistan Fashion Week?
Our media partners across television, online and in print have been very supportive in promoting this premier fashion event and ensuring its success. Our media partners being ARY Digital, BizAsia.co.uk and Asian Woman magazine.

Final message
This is going to be a premier fashion event featuring the cream of Pakistan۪s fashion talent in the UK. We look forward to seeing you all there!
