India ratings: SAB TV 2 points behind Sony TV

Multi Screen Media’s two entertainment channels are fighting over the number four position in India.

Flagship entertainment channel, Sony Entertainment Television Asia, which has long been sitting at number four is seeing some stiff competition from its smaller sister station – SAB TV.

The light entertainment channel was just two points behind Sony TV, according to official data from TAM for Week 6 of 2011. SAB TV surged to 152 GRPs, whereas Sony TV dropped from 178 GRPs to 154 GRPs this week.

Star Plus remained miles ahead of its number two competitor, Colors. Star Plus grabbed 327 GRPs (down from 338 GRPs) and Colors was second with 265 GRPs. ZEE TV also witnessed a rise to 250 GRPs.

Imagine TV, which recently saw the launch of Shah Rukh Khan’s new gameshow ‘Zor Ka Jhatka – Total Wipeout’ has had a slight lift. It now touches 100 GRPs in the week the show was launched on the channel. With an average rating of 2.6 in the opening week, the show is a stand out hit in those TGs rating 3.5 TVR amongst 10-14 girls, 4.2 TVR amongst 10-14 boys and 3.7 TVR amongst F 15 to 24.

Nikhil Madhok, Senior Director Marketing & Communication, Imagine TV said, “We are very happy that Zor Ka Jhatka has helped us surge ahead of competition in the core of prime time. Moving to No.1 or 2 in most markets from a No.5 position is a fantastic result for us. Encouragingly, the ratings have held strong through the week, which shows the content is working. We were always confident about the format and our super star host Shah Rukh Khan’s crowd pulling power.”
