India ratings: Republic TV stays top but viewership falls

Republic TV held on to the No.1 position in the English news genre in India for the second consecutive week.

According to Week 20 of 2017 data from BARC, the Arnab Goswami owned channel stayed ahead of its biggest rival, Times Now. However, the channel’s viewership slipped to 1.7 million impressions – nearly 20% on the previous week. Times Now though could only manage half of Republic TV’s audience. It mustered up 978 million impressions and India Today TV in third with 289 million impressions. NDTV 24×7 slipped from last week’s No.3 to No.5 with 241 million impressions.

This is the final time we’ll get to see data for some of these English news channels for a while after News Broadcasters Association expressed dismay at BARC for releasing data of Republic TV. The association has accused Republic TV of using unfair tactics like doubling up slots on platforms to get higher viewership.
