India ratings: Republic TV jumps ahead of Times Now

India’s longest running No.1 English news channel has been toppled by Arnab Goswami’s new venture, Republic TV, according to BARC India for Week 19 of 2017.

Republic TV was the most watched channel in the genre with 2.11 million impressions – 84% higher than Times Now. The latter could only manage 1.14 million.

In a statement, Goswami boasted of the figures, “I feel blessed with the love, support and the massive viewership that Republic TV has received. It reaffirms my faith that people watch what they find credible. I am deeply grateful to the people of this country for making Republic TV, the number one news channel in India.”

Republic TV went one step further on Twitter to claim that it was the first channel in Indian television history to launched at No.1 in its debut week.

In addition, Republic, on Twitter, claimed that this is the first time in Indian television history that a new channel became number one in its debut week.
