The world television premiere of this year’s superhit movie, ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ on Sunday 27th December, raked in a record audience for Colors in India.
The romantic comedy starring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif touched a TVR high of 7.5, the highest for a Bollywood movie premiere on Indian television since 2005.
The closest to come anywhere near ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ was the premiere of ‘Dhoom’ on Sony Entertainment Television Asia in May 2005, which clocked a TVR of 7.1, according to IndianTelevision.
Other movie premieres that have done well on Indian television are Krrish (STAR Plus), Tare Zaamen Par (ZEE Cinema), Ghajini (Colors) and Singh Is Kinng (Sony TV).
The movie released in the early part of November and premiering on television so soon after its theatrical release has paid off for the channel and moreover it has almost recovered its investments from its first run. Colors had a deal with Tips to screen the film 25 times.
In the UK, Colors will show the movie when the channel launches in the coming weeks. Also, NDTV Imagine holds the rights to the movie too.
