India ratings: Colors stands clear at the top

Viacom-18’s entertainment channel Colors continues its clear reign at the top in India, STAR Plus returns to number 2 and ZEE TV settles for 3, according to latest TAM data.

Ratings for week ending 6th June show that Colors has maintained its leadership position for the third consecutive week with 270 GRPs, while STAR Plus has moved back up to two with 246 GRPs and ZEE TV has gone back down to three with 235 GRPs.

In this week, Colors premiered the Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Ghajini’ fetched a TVR of 4.79 and a total of 39 GRPs. The channel also grossed a total of 63 GRPs from eight movies that it aired during the week.

Commenting on the ratings, STAR India spokesperson said, “We have recently launched STAR Vivaah and Mitwa… and will be launching the Indian version of Moment of truth and Aap Ki Kachehri – season two very soon. Our shows Yeh Rishta and Bidaai continue to dominate at the top in Hindi GEC. This week STAR Plus leads the prime time and afternoon slots; the GRPs for Colors clearly comes from the movie premier Ghajini.”

Meanwhile, ZEE TV, which managed 25 GRPs from the four movies it aired during the week, grossed 210 points from non-films. However, good news for the channel will be the fact that new shows ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa – Lil Champs’, ‘Pavitra Rishta’ and ‘Aap Ki Antra’ have seemed to have clicked with viewers.

For ZEE TV ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa – Lil Champs’ has opened with a TVR of 3.1 on Friday (5th June), contending against India-Bangladesh T20 match, to deliver a 2.8 TVR on Saturday. Also, the two new daily shows, ‘Aap Ki Antra’ and ‘Pavitra Rishta’, have managed a peak TVR of 3.3 and 3.2 in their debut week. The average for the two shows stood at 2.5 and 2.7 TVRs respectively.

Says ZEE TV and ZEE Cinema marketing head Akash Chawla, “We are pretty happy with the ratings as our new shows have fared really well. After Dance India Dance, a TVR of 3.1 on opening day for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa – Lil Champs and 2.8 on the subsequent day at a time when the India match was on is surely a good start.”

Meanwhile, Sony Entertainment Television Asia is yet to move up the ladder from fifth spot even after the second week of its relaunched prime time. This week, the channel is hovering at 90 GRPs, seven points below its previous week’s 97 GRPs. The fiction as well as non-fiction shows failed to improve much. Among the new fictions, ‘Bhaskar Bharti’ was the top rated show with a peak TVR of 1 while ‘Chittod Ki Rani Padmini Ka Johar’ (0.5 TVR), ‘Ladies Special’ (0.9 TVR) and ‘Palampur Express’ (0.7 TVR) failed to grab the eyeballs.
