IPL 6 starts off well in India

The latest round of India ratings sees the Indian Premier League (IPL) making its impact and affecting the numbers of all Hindi channels with Colors most hit.

According to official data from TAM, the IPL cricket tournament opened to an average 4.5 TVR in HSM markets and 4.1 TVR in all-India market for the first match between Kolkotta Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils.

The IPL, which is broadcast on Sony TV’s MAX and Six in India attracted 100 million viewers, compared with last season۪s 79 million viewers.

Neeraj Vyas, EVP and Business Head, Max, said, We are thrilled with such an encouraging start to this season of the Pepsi IPL 2013 and the numbers more than corroborate this. We are delighted with the opening week results and it only proves that our campaign Sirf Dekhne Ka Nahi۪ has been a huge success. There is a lot more to look forward to in the coming days and as the tournament progresses we are confident that this will be a phenomenal season.۝

Leading the market, however, remained Star Plus with 284 GRPs this week (last week 291). Its marketing strategy to promote its ‘Nayi Soch Award’ at the IPL seems to be working well.

ZEE TV was down by 22 points and below the 200-mark recording 185 GRPs (last week 207).

In third, Sony Entertainment Television Asia was down by 11 points and delivered 164 GRPs this week (last week 175).

Colors slipped to fourth mainly down to ongoing distribution issues on cable platforms Hathway and GTPL networks across the country and also the IPL. It touched a low of just 156 (last week 191).

Sony SAB TV was also hit by the IPL with 136 GRPs (last week 159).

Star Life Ok was next with 110 GRPs this week (last week 119).

Sahara One could only muster in 18 GRPs (last week 24).
