India gets its very own ‘Narcos’ with ‘Daddy’

‘Narcos’, a show based on the life of drug king Pablo Escobar, received an incredible fan following in India when it was released a few years ago. The story showcased Escobar’s rise from being an ordinary dealer to the biggest drug mafia in South America. Indian director Ashim Ahluwalia and actor Arjun Rampal now present their own version. Forthcoming thriller, ‘Daddy’, is based on the life of infamous gangster turned politician Arun Gawli, who ruled Mumbai in the late 80s and 90s.

The power, the courage, the madness that ‘Narcos’ and ‘Daddy’ lead characters exude is unparalleled. Both expose and throw light on the fact that Gawli and Escobar, despite their larger than life personas, were God-fearing and human – a common thread that’s hard to be missed.

At a time when filmmakers and actors are pushing the envelope to deliver content that caters to new audiences, ‘Daddy’ is the perfect vehicle to fill the vacuum created by ‘Narcos’.
