India Elections: NDTV 24×7 biggest gainer in UK

With India getting ready to welcome changes with the results of the much talked about India elections, BizAsia looks at the biggest risers and fallers in the UK amongst the news channels.

The biggest riser: NDTV 24×7
The UK’s longest running Indian news channel has emerged as the top choice for the Indian elections coverage. Backed by a huge marketing campaign on radio, television and online, NDTV 24×7 is witnessing record audience figures since it joined the audience measuring body, BARB. Data for week ending 27th April, the channel peaked with an audience of 276,000 viewers – making it the most watched Indian news broadcaster. It has managed to sustain viewership with 265,000 viewers for week ending Sunday 4th May.

The others: Aaj Tak, ABP News & News18 India
Aaj Tak, which has been the most dominant player in the Indian news genre in UK, has more or less sustained its audience. The month leading to the Indian elections saw the channel peak to 244,000 viewers during the week ending Sunday 13th April. Currently, the channel stands with an audience of 217,000 viewers.

Despite one of the biggest marketing campaigns, ABP News has not been able to bring much of a change in its viewership over the past month. The channel has maintained its viewership with a weekly reach around 180,000 viewers.

News18 India, which has struggled to climb up the rankings remained on the low slide. However, it has added over 20,000 viewers during the month preceding the Indian elections. It has steadily increased from 50,000 viewers during week ending Sunday 6th April to 71,000 viewers it currently stands at.
