News broadcasters in the UK have begun rolling out coverage of India’s historical elections where Hindu Bharitya Janata Party (BJP) party leader, Narendra Modi has hailed victory and will be sworn in as the country’s new prime minister.

With final results still pouring in, Modi took to Twitter to declare victory for BJP. He tweeted: “India has won. Good days are coming.”

Its the first time in 30 years that one single party has formed a majority government. With this signals the end of the Congress Party’s rule.

The new prime minister is expected to be sworn in as soon as next week.

While Indian news broadcasters NDTV 24×7, Aaj Tak, ABP News and News18 India have cleared their schedules for immediate updates from all around India, mainstream channels, Sky News and BBC News and France 24 are bringing viewers extended updates from India.

Indian news channels have rejigged their on-air graphics with straps and bumpers being updated every few seconds as results reach each broadcaster.

The BBC Asian Network is also carrying extended news reports from India, while Sabras Radio has tied up with NDTV 24×7 for exclusive updates every 30 minutes.
