India Cricket World Cup win dominates news

After a hiatus of 28 years, India have walked away as the champions of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, beating Sri Lanka by six wickets.

On the media front, news channels in the UK broke into normal programming to bring viewers blanket coverage of India’s much awaited win.

Indian broadcasters like NDTV 24×7, Aaj Tak and Star News had been showing special programming around the World Cup Final for most part of the day with continuous news post the match. NDTV 24×7 will continue to air the special show ‘Cup Of Pride’, while Aaj Tak will has abandoned its regular shows to air celebrations live from across India.

ZEE TV carried excerpts from ZEE News live from the celebrations taking place in India, during its evening schedule.Similarly, the BBC Asian Network aired a special show by Gagan Grewal moments before the winner was declared. The World Cup special show ran for an hour from 18:00 this evening.

Other radio stations including Sunrise Radio and Sabras Radio also aired reactions live from listeners and played music for the joyous occasion.Cometh the hour cometh the man, Indian skipper MS Dhoni had saved his best for the last, carving a brilliant innings to win the ultimate glory for his nation amidst the drought of his big innings.
