Sunrise Radio Group Chairman, Avtar Lit has confirmed that the station no longer needs donations from the listeners and all payments received will be returned.
After weeks of uncertainty surrounding the Sunrise Radio Group, Lit went on Sunrise Radio’s ‘Drivetime’ show on Friday evening, talking about the recent pledges made by the station.
He started by thanking the listeners and said he valued the listeners generosity but the donations will no longer be required. He added, “Our listeners have shown absolute generosity this week, I don’t know if you remember, I think on Ravi Sharma’s programme, I think on Monday – maybe two months ago, I said look there needs to be new business model for commercial radio that is something like voluntary subscription by the listeners, just like television and various other things…and of course advertising and everything else…but one other thing was to find out if people really value radio and if they really put their hands in their pockets and actually make contributions and absolutely delighted that people have been extremely extremely generous.”
Talking about those listeners that contributed, he said, “They will always be very special to all our stations because they actually came to us in hour of need even though the problems will be resolved. We’ll do something special for them maybe my guests at special parties or maybe when superstars come, meet them. Those people deserve a special mention and in this day of age no one gives anything to anyone but for so many to call up and offer support and I just wanted to give good news.”
He also expressed his happiness about the station being talked about so much last week with the appeals. He said, “Sunrise probably was most talked about more than anything else in the community so therefore…hopefully we’ll have more listeners now.”
Lit confirmed that all donations made by listeners are already in the process of being returned and by this coming week, contributors will get their donations back. He also confirmed that the station no longer needed any money from listeners.
